RULES

ACCEPTANCE

Every player who participates in this event must agree to abide by this ruleset, including the Code of Conduct, as part of the registration process. By registering for this event, a player is confirming that he or she has read and agrees to these rules.

ENFORCEMENT

These rules will apply to all players in the Master of the Map and Tournament Officials may, where appropriate, hand out warnings, disqualifications, bans or other penalties to players in violation of these rules.

AMENDMENTS

Tournament Officials may update, revise, change or modify these rules. Participation in this event after any update, revision, change, or modification to these rules will be deemed as acceptance by such player of these rules.

MASTER OF THE MAP EVENT DETAILS

EVENT OWNERSHIP

Master of the Map is an original event by Fortress Melbourne. This event is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by Epic Games, Inc.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Players must meet the following eligibility requirements to participate in Master of the Map on the associated day

CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE

Open to everyone aged 18 and over on the day of the tournament.
Players must be a resident of Australia or New Zealand.
Open to both PC and console players.
Players are required to have a team of three (3) to enter.
All team captains are required to be in the Master of the Map Discord server to receive match invites, tournament updates and to submit game results.
At least one player from every team is required to live stream their gameplay throughout the duration of the Call of Duty: Warzone event. See more details under the Day 1 – Call of Duty: Warzone section.

FORTNITE

Open to everyone aged 13 and over on the day of the tournament.
Players must be a resident of Australia or New Zealand.
Open to both PC and console players.
Players are required to have a team of three (3) to enter
All team captains are required to be in the Master of the Map Discord server to receive custom match keys and tournament updates.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the events is via Fortress Melbourne’s website only (found here) and registration will close at the following times:
Call of Duty: Warzone – 5:00PM AEDT Friday 22nd October 2021
Fortnite – 9:00PM AEDT Saturday 23rd October 2021

EVENT FORMAT

Master of the Map is an online, two day, Battle Royale event where teams of three (3) compete across one or both days.

The weekend is structured is structured as follows:

Day 1, Oct 23rd
Call of Duty: Warzone (4:00 – 8:00PM AEDT)
Qualifying Round (3 games)
Final (1 game)

Day 2, Oct 24th
Fortnite (4:00 – 8:00PM AEDT)
Qualifying Round (3 games)
Final (1 game)

All teams who reach the Final in each tournament will be awarded prize money and the team who performs the best across both events will be crowned the Master of the Map at a formal broadcasted ceremony live at Fortress Melbourne in 2022. See more details under ‘Master of the Map Winner’.

QUALIFYING ROUND

The Qualifying Round will consist of three (3) Battle Royale Trios games one after the other.
Every team will be randomly sorted into private matches of up to thirty-three (33) teams in each, with up to six (6) private matches running simultaneously.
Teams are awarded points based on their performance (number of kills and placement) in each game, the points distribution can be seen below under the section ‘Points and Prizes’.

Once the three Qualifying Round games have been completed, the five (5) teams who accumulated the most points in each private match advance to the Final.

If the number of private matches are less than six (6), the number of participants per private match who advance to the Final will increase.

In the event that exactly four (4) private matches are hosted, seven (7) teams per private match will advance with an additional two (2) teams. These two (2) teams will be determined by the most points accumulated in comparison to all qualifying round teams. In the event of a tie between two (2) or more teams, the tiebreakers under the ‘Points and Prizes’ section will be used to resolve ties.

FINAL

The Final in both tournaments consists of one (1) game of Battle Royale Trios played in a private match with the thirty (30) teams who advanced from the Qualifying Round.
All thirty (30) teams in the Final are awarded prize money, and the higher a team places the more prize money they earn. See under ‘Points and Prizes’ for the breakdown of prize money distribution.

POINTS AND PRIZES

FINAL

After every game in the Qualifying Round, points are awarded to every team based on the team’s placement and the total number of kills accumulated by every player on the team.

Below is the points allocated for placement and kills:

1st: 15 Points
2nd: 12 Points
3rd: 11 Points
4th: 10 Points
5th: 9 Points
6th: 8 Points
7th: 7 Points
8th: 6 Points
9th: 5 Points
10th – 15th: 4 Points
16th- 20th: 3 Points
21st- 33rd: 2 Points

Each kill: 1 point. Points will continue to be awarded in the Final as this contributes to determining the overall Master of the Map of both game titles. See ‘Master of the Map Winner’ for further details.

TIEBREAKERS

In the event of a tie between two (2) or more teams when determining which teams advance to a Final from the Qualifying Round, tiebreakers will be resolved in the order below:

Total Points earned in the Qualifying Round
Average kills per game
Average placement per game
Most kills in one game
Highest placement in one game

PRIZES

Residents from both Australia and New Zealand are eligible for prizing.

There is a daily cash prize pool of $5000. All teams in the Final each day are awarded prize money based on their placement as shown below:

1st – $1500
2nd – $700
3rd – $340
4th $240
5th – 10th $120
11th – 20th – $90
21st – 30th – $60

All prize money is listed in AUD.

If a team has won prize money their team captain will be contacted in the week following the event via email to collect required banking details. Prize money is then distributed within 60 days of the email sent.

Broadcast Awards

A number of physical prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the broadcast hosts to teams who play in a broadcasted game.

The categories that they are awarding prizes to are:
Hot Rod – Stand out plays involving vehicles
Big Bang – Stand out plays involving explosions
Sharpshooter – Stand out skillful plays
Low Blow – Stand out funny moments

CLAIMING PRIZES

Spot prize winners will be emailed in the week following the event with a barcode and instructions on how to redeem their prize.

These must be redeemed by 11:59 PM Friday 5th November 2021, otherwise the winner forfeits their prize.

MASTER OF THE MAP WINNER

A separate prize is awarded to the team who earns the most cumulative points across both game titles.

ELIGIBILITY

Teams must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Master of the Map prize:

The team must participate in both game titles. Participation is determined by a team playing in at least one (1) Qualifying round game to completion.

All three (3) players on the team must remain the same across both game titles.

DETERMINING A WINNER

For every team who participates in both game titles, the points they earned in each will be summed together. This new total will be compared with all other teams who participated in both game titles to determine which team earned the most points across both game titles.

TIEBREAKERS

In the event of a tie between 2 or more teams when determining which team becomes the overall winner of the Master of the Map, tiebreakers will be resolved in the order below:

Total Points earned across both days
Average kills per game across both days
Average placement per game across both days
Most kills in one game across both days
Highest placement in one game across both days

PRIZE

The overall winning team of the Master of the Map will receive:
Three (3) replica Master of the Map belts
Accommodation and flights to Melbourne (if the winning team members do not live in Victoria) for a live formal broadcasted ceremony in 2022.
Name engraved on the official Master of the Map belt located at Fortress Melbourne

DAY 1 - CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE

MATCH PROCESS

All team captains are required to be in the Master of the Map Discord server to participate in the event. Captains can join the server here.

In the Qualifying Round and Final, a Tournament Admin will send an invite to a private match to all team captains in the Master of the Map Discord server and via direct invite in-game to captains on console.

Every captain will then invite their teammates to the private match in-game for them to join.

Teams will be assigned a squad number in the ‘assigned-squad’ channel in the Master of the Map Discord server for teams to join in the Qualifying Round games. A separate squad number will be assigned for those who advance to the Final. Teams are required to join the assigned squad number given in every game they play.

After being eliminated in any game during the event, all players must remain in-game and spectate for the remainder of the game until a winner is determined.

TECH AND GAME ISSUES

Tournament Admins will give teams ten (10) minutes from when the first invite to a private match is sent out for all players to join. If by the end of the ten (10) minutes there are still invited players who have not yet joined, Tournament Admins may, at their sole discretion, decide to extend the ten (10) minute window to allow more players to join.

If the first invites to a private match have been sent and the lobby closes before the match is started due to a crash, bug or other in-game issue, teams will be given a five (5) minute period from when the following round of invites are sent to join a newly created private match.

SUBMISSION OF GAME RESULTS

Immediately after a team has been eliminated from a game, the captain must take a screenshot or photo of their team’s scoreboard and submit it along with their team’s name and placing in text to their group’s ‘submit-game-results’ channel in the Master of the Map Discord server.

STREAMING

At least one player from every team is required to live stream their gameplay throughout the duration of the Call of Duty: Warzone event. This may take place on streaming platforms such as Twitch or Facebook Gaming.

The player streaming is prohibited from playing any music throughout the entirety of their stream during the event.

The player must continue spectating in-game after they are eliminated

Every PC stream must have a stream delay of exactly two (2) minutes. Resources detailing step by step how to stream will be provided in the Master of the Map Discord server. 

DAY 2 - FORTNITE

MATCH PROCESS

All team captains are required to be in the Master of the Map Discord server to participate in the event. Captains can join the server here.

All teams must be in a party in-game to join custom matches.

In the Qualifying Round and Final, a Tournament Admin will post a custom key to all team captains in the Master of the Map discord server for captains to join the custom match with their team.

TECH AND GAME ISSUES

Tournament Admins will give teams ten (10) minutes from when the first custom key is posted for all players to join. If by the end of the ten (10) minutes there are still players who have not yet joined, Tournament Admins may, at their sole discretion, decide to extend the ten (10) minute window to allow more players to join.

If the first custom key has been posted and the custom match closes before the match is started due to a crash, bug or other in-game issue, teams will be given a five (5) minute period from when the following custom key is posted to join a newly created custom match.

CODE OF CONDUCT

OVERVIEW

All participants and players are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on themselves, Fortress, the press, sponsors, attendees, and other participants and players.

PLAYER AND TEAM NAMES

All player and team names used in-game and associated with Master of the Map must be appropriate and inoffensive. Teams are required to have a unique team name. Tournament Officials reserve the right to require player and team names to be changed where necessary.

PERSONAL CONDUCT; BEHAVIOURS

All players must conduct themselves in a way that is at all times consistent with:
– The Code of Conduct
– The general principles of personal integrity, honesty, and good sportsmanship
– Players must be respectful of other players, Tournament Operations, spectators, and fans

Players may not behave in a manner which:
– Violates these rules
– Is disruptive, unsafe, or destructive
– Is otherwise harmful to the enjoyment of the event by other users as intended by event Entities
– Engages in harassing or other disrespectful conduct, use of abusive or offensive language, game sabotage, spamming, social engineering, scamming, or any unlawful activity

All in-game names and images used by players must be appropriate and inoffensive.

In-game names and images must not contain any of the following:
Vulgarity, hate speech, offensive or derogatory language of any kind

Any violation of these rules may result in disciplinary action to the accused player whether or not that violation was committed intentionally.

COMPETITIVE INTEGRITY

Any form of unfair play is prohibited by these rules, and may result in disciplinary action, see the ‘Disciplinary Action’ section below for more details. Examples of unfair play include, but not limited to, the following:

Collusion, match fixing, bribing a tournament official, or any other action or agreement to intentionally influence the outcome of any game or event

Hacking or otherwise modifying the intended behaviour of the client

Playing or allowing another player to play on a game account registered under another person’s name

Using any kind of cheating device, program, or similar cheating method to gain a competitive advantage

Intentionally exploiting any game function in a manner not intended by the game’s publishers in order to gain a competitive advantage

Using distributed denial of service attacks or similar methods to interfere with another player’s connection to the game client

Using macro keys or similar methods to automate in-game actions

Intentionally disconnecting from a match without a legitimate reason for doing so

Accepting any gift, reward, bribe, or compensation for services, promised, rendered, or to be rendered in connection with unfair play of the game (i.e. services designed to throw or fix a game or event).

Receiving outside assistance regarding the location of other players, other players’ health or any other information not otherwise known to the player by the information on his or her own screen or in-house audio.

HARASSMENT

Players are prohibited from engaging in any form of harassing, abusive, or discriminatory conduct based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, political opinion or any other opinion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other status or characteristic protected under applicable law.

Any player who witnesses or is subjected to harassing, abusive, or discriminatory conduct should immediately notify a Tournament Admin. All complaints will be promptly investigated and appropriate action will be taken. Retaliation against any player who brings forward a complaint or cooperates in the investigation of a complaint is prohibited.

CONFIDENTIALITY

A player may not disclose to any third party any confidential information provided by Tournament Entities, or its affiliates concerning Master of the Map, by any method of communication, including by posting on social media channels.

ILLEGAL CONDUCT

A player may not disclose to any third party any confidential information provided by Tournament Entities, or its affiliates concerning Master of the Map, by any method of communication, including by posting on social media channels.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

The use of drugs or alcohol may lead to disruptive behavior. Any player believed to be under the influence of drugs or impaired by alcohol during the Master of the Map may be removed from the Master of the Map at the discretion of the Tournament Officials. No references to illegal substances will be tolerated.

NON-DISPARAGEMENT

Participants always have the right to express their opinions in a professional and sportsmanlike manner. Disputes or player violation reports must be reviewed by Tournament Officials before any information is released publicly. Participants may not at any time make, post, publish, or communicate to any person or entity or in any public forum, false, defamatory, libelous, slanderous or disparaging remarks, comments, or statements concerning the Tournament Officials, Fortress, affiliates, or any of their products or services. The section does not, in any way, restrict or impede a participant from complying with any applicable law or a valid order of a court of competent jurisdiction or an authorized government agency, provided that such compliance does not exceed that required by the law or order.

CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS

Players agree to fully cooperate with Fortress and/or Tournament Operations in the investigation of any violation of the rules stated in this rulebook. If a Tournament Official and/or Tournament Entities contact a player to discuss the investigation, the player must be truthful in the information that he or she provides. Any player found to have withheld, destroyed, or tampered with any related information, or otherwise found to have misled Tournament Entities during an investigation, will be subject to disciplinary action.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Players agree to fully cooperate with Fortress and/or Tournament Operations in the investigation of any violation of the rules stated in this rulebook. If a Tournament Official and/or Tournament Entities contact a player to discuss the investigation, the player must be truthful in the information that he or she provides. Any player found to have withheld, destroyed, or tampered with any related information, or otherwise found to have misled Tournament Entities during an investigation, will be subject to disciplinary action.

MY TEAM HAS REGISTERED. NOW WHAT?

If Fortress, or affiliates, along with the Tournament Lead, decide that a player has violated the Code of Conduct or any rules outlined in the Master of the Map Ruleset, Fortress may take the following disciplinary actions (as applicable):

-Issue a private or public warning (verbal or written) to the player
-Disqualify the player from participating in one or more games in a tournament
-Loss of all or any part of the prizing previously award to the player
-Prevent the player from participating in one or more future tournaments hosted by Fortress

For clarity, the nature and extent of the disciplinary action taken by Fortress pursuant to this section will be in the sole and absolute discretion of Fortress. Fortress reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from such player to the fullest extent permitted by applicable laws.

If Fortress decides that there have been repeated breaches of these rules by a player, it may hand out increasing disciplinary action, including permanent disqualification from all future competitive play of any game at Fortress.

Final decisions by Fortress as to the appropriate disciplinary action will be final and binding to all involved players.

RIGHTS GRANTED BY THE ENTRANT

By registering for this Event, you understand and agree that Fortress Melbourne and anyone acting on behalf of Fortress Melbourne or its respective licensees, successors, and assigns, shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media or broadcast now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity and throughout the World, without limitation, your entry, name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image, statements about the Event, and biographical information for news, publicity, information, trade, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent. By entering this Event, you represent and warrant that your entry and gameplay is an original work of authorship, and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If your entry infringes upon the intellectual property right of another, you will be disqualified at the sole discretion of Fortress Melbourne. If the content of your entry is claimed to constitute infringement of any proprietary or intellectual proprietary rights of any third party, you shall, at your sole expense, defend or settle against such claims. You shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Fortress Melbourne from and against any suit, proceeding, claims, liability, loss, damage, costs or expense, which Fortress Melbourne may incur, suffer, or be required to pay arising out of such infringement or suspected infringement of any third party’s right.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Private Match: Private Match or Custom Match is a match in which all players/teams play in together that is not accessible by the general public.

Custom Key: Custom Key is a combination of characters generated by the host of the Private Match which is used by players/teams to join the Private Match created

Lobby: Lobby refers to where players/teams join in-game using a Private Match invite or Custom Key before the match begins

Live stream: A live transmission of an event, gameplay over the internet on streaming platforms such as Twitch or Facebook Gaming.
